BaZi (Four Pillars)

Your birth year, month, day and hour are each converted into a pair of Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch. Four pairs make eight characters, which is why it is called BaZi (“eight characters”) or the Four Pillars. The stem of the Day Pillar is the Day Master and stands for you. How the other seven characters relate to the Day Master is described by the Ten Gods, which point to tendencies in personality, working style and relationships. The Luck Pillars (Da Yun), which change every ten years, describe the wider backdrop of each stage of life.

The Year Pillar changes at Lichun (the start of spring), and the Month Pillar at the moment each of the twelve “jie” solar terms begins. Solar term times are within one minute of astronomical calculation. The Day and Hour Pillars use the standard time of the birthplace, with daylight saving time converted back automatically. You can choose true solar time and whether the day changes at 23:00. If your birth time falls close to a solar term or an hour boundary, both possibilities are shown side by side rather than one being picked for you. Conclusions that schools disagree on, such as the Useful God or Day Master strength, are not calculated here.

Chart calculation and today’s outlook are free. Once you save a chart, you can open it each day to see what the day means for you (free). For a full reading, you can unlock BaZi reports with credits: the Natal report is 50 credits, each of the Career and wealth, Love and marriage, and Learning and growth topic reports is 30 credits, and the full set is 110 credits.
